Innovative collaboration between the Directorate for National Education, Youth and Sports and the Monegasque Anti-Doping Committee

In the context of the Interdisciplinary Practical Teachings, the Monegasque Anti-Doping Committee and the National Education Directorate have come together on the initiative of the Vice Principal at Charles III Junior High School.

Des intervenants du monde sportif

The High School reform applied in Monaco since the beginning of the 2016 school year has allowed the establishment of the Interdisciplinary Practical Teachings for the 7th, 8th and 9th grade classes. This educational modality, which includes several disciplines, is based on a project approach and results in its practical implementation by the students individually or collectively.

Within this general framework, the Monegasque Anti-Doping Committee and the Directorate for National Education, Youth and Sports have come together on the initiative of the Vice Principal at Charles III Junior High School to create in this educational facility an Interdisciplinary Practical Teaching Module dedicated to the fight against addiction and doping, initially intended for some 7th graders of this Junior High School.

The project pilot of this module, consisting of two parts, took shape from 19 to 23 June 2017.

* As a first step, specific educational content was provided as part of the Life and Earth Sciences teaching program for classes held on Monday, 19 and Tuesday, 20 June 2017;

* In a second time, physical and sports education sessions dedicated to badminton on Thursday, June 22 and volleyball on Friday, June 23, allowed to alternate sports sequences and short illustrated interventions or animated films related to the fight against doping in sport by involving the leaders of the Monegasque clubs and federations of the two disciplines concerned.

These interventions were provided by Mr. Philippe Orengo, State Councilor, President of the Monegasque Anti-Doping Committee, Dr. Muriel Tonelli, Head of the Committee on Training, Prevention and Education, Ms. Sylvie Bertrand, President of the Monegasque Federation of Badminton and Monaco Badminton Club, and Mr. Christian Palmaro, President of the Monegasque Volleyball Federation.

A GREAT SUCCESS FOR STUDENTS

Patrice Cellario, Government Counselor-Secretary of the Interior, and Isabelle Bonnal, Director of National Education, Youth and Sports, honored with their presence the closing of the module on June 23, 2017 and, in view of the interest aroused among students and teachers, they consider favorably the extension of this module to all 7th grade classes of schools in the Principality and to other classes of cycle 4.
